Two brothers will face each other in a 10-cornered contest for the Petagas seat, with one of them contesting as an independent after not being fielded by Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).
Awang Ahmad Sah Sahari, who won the seat for Warisan in 2020 before defecting to Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah, is hoping to defend his seat against his brother, Awang Husaini Sahari of PKR.
Earlier, Gagasan Rakyat said members who contest as independent candidates will be sacked with immediate effect.
The other candidates for the seat include Uda Sulai (Warisan), Annita Shiela F Among (Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku), Adelaide Cornelius (Parti Kesejahteraan Demokratik Masyarakat), Aslin Samat (Parti Impian Sabah) and Sabrezani Sabdin (Parti Kerjasama Anak Negeri).
Awang Ahmad previously said GRS would allow him to defend his seat, but the coalition later made way for Pakatan Harapan to field Awang Husaini as part of an electoral pact for the Nov 29 polls.
In 2020, Awang Ahmad won the seat with a slim 261-vote majority in a six-cornered race.
