Maimunah Sharif, who clocked out for the final time as the city’s mayor tonight has described the gazettement of the Kuala Lumpur Local Plan as her most important achievement.
She also said that she was satisfied with her performance in the past 15 months.
“Throughout this period I personally led reviews of over 60 development projects to ensure it was in line with principles of sustainability, mobility, preservation of heritage and better quality of life,” she told reporters here.
When it came to governance and finances, Maimunah said she took the bold decision to restructure City Hall’s procurements and spending as well as organised several Asean forums, which she said helped make Kuala Lumpur more prominent.
She also revealed that she had never taken leave in the 500 days as mayor, adding that her hectic schedule saw her work to the wee hours of the morning.
“I am entitled to 60 days (of annual leave), but I have not taken a single day. I clock in the morning and leave the office at night. If you check my punch card, I never clock out at 5pm. It’s often between 8pm to 10pm.”
Maimunah said her long hours boiled down to her people-centric approach, which saw her go to the ground often to understand for herself issues affecting the people, especially the B40.
Maimunah was appointed as the Kuala Lumpur mayor in August last year for a two-year term, becoming the first woman to occupy the post.
Her term was shortened to today as she is to be appointed as property adviser to Petronas from Nov 17.
