SHAH ALAM, Nov 14 (Bernama) — Residents in Jalan Papan, Pandamaran, Klang, who were affected by the demolition of their houses will receive affordable housing to be developed by Permodalan Negeri Selangor Berhad (PNSB).
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari said the matter was agreed upon in a meeting this morning when the developer agreed to hand over 2.83 hectares (seven acres) of land for a comprehensive development project.
“Finally, the developer agreed to hand over seven acres of land and we will develop housing for the urban settlers.
“… but it will take time because it involves comprehensive development. For the time being, you can live in the Smart Sewa Skim house, and if there are financial problems, we can discuss it,” he said at a press conference after tabling the Selangor 2026 Budget at Dewan Negeri Selangor today.
Amirudin also expressed regret that the issue had dragged on for so long and that the state government as the ‘middleman’ had tried its best to help both parties.
He was also confident that the Kampung Papan land ownership issue could be resolved harmoniously if the residents’ representatives did not take the case to court.
“The solution has been tried many times, including in the last term, the developer wanted to provide a site but each did not want to give in and wanted to continue with the court case.
“In the end, what happened was they continued the case and the court ruled that the land belonged to the developer. The state government tried to help but the effort was unsuccessful,” he said.
Earlier, the media reported that the issue involving urban settlers in Jalan Papan Pandamaran for the past 25 years has entered the resolution phase after developer Melati Ehsan Consolidated Sdn Bhd (MECSB) agreed to hand over 2.8 hectares of land to the Selangor State Government.
State Housing and Culture Exco Datuk Borhan Aman Shah said on Nov 11, the state government had issued an official letter to MECSB to confirm the handover of 3.2 hectares of land as committed during a joint meeting with Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari on Oct 21.
Previously, the media reported that the demolition of houses in Kampung Papan turned tense when individuals claiming to be residents acted aggressively to protest the demolition.
The Selangor State Legislative Assembly sitting resumes on Nov 17.
