KOTA KINABALU, Nov 14 — The United Progressive Kinabalu Organisation (Upko) will contest 25 seats in the upcoming Sabah state election, led by its president Datuk Ewon Benedick in Kadamaian.

Recently independent from the Pakatan Harapan coalition, Ewon said he will personally lead the party’s candidates in championing a principled fight for the ‘Sabah First’ agenda, rooted in the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Sabah’s constitutional rights.

“Upko’s candidates will uphold principled leadership, guided by clear benchmarks and performance indicators to ensure they continuously deliver the best outcomes for the people of Sabah,” he said.

Ewon is seeking a third term as Kadamaian assemblyman, while former president Datuk Madius Tangau will contest the Tamparuli seat, which will also see Parti Bersatu Sabah newcomer Bonaventure Boniface among the candidates.

Deputy president Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin will attempt to reclaim the Moyog seat after losing it to Warisan in the last three elections.

Ewon also reaffirmed Upko’s commitment to pursuing the 40 per cent special grant entitlement, which he said is crucial for strengthening Sabah’s development.

“With the return of our rightful revenue, Sabah can further improve infrastructure and public amenities, boost economic and entrepreneurial growth, eradicate poverty and enhance the well-being of our people,” he said.

He concluded by calling on all Sabahans to support Upko and its candidates as they advance the party’s long-term vision for the state.
