PETALING JAYA:

Genting Malaysia should ensure that the toll rates on the private road leading into Genting Highlands are reasonable and do not place a financial burden on road users, says Bentong MP Young Syefura Othman.

She also urged the company to implement an efficient toll payment system that would prevent traffic congestion along the entry routes from the Karak highway and Batang Kali.

The company should also consider providing special toll exemptions or discounts for local residents, employees, and families with children attending schools in Genting.

“Continuous monitoring and maintenance of the road and slopes along the Genting route are also critical (to ensure safety),” she added.

Young Syefura acknowledged Genting Malaysia’s rationale for imposing a toll on the 24km road, which the company has maintained since the 1960s.

She also noted that Genting Highlands, as a major tourist destination, is expected to see a surge in visitors during Visit Malaysia Year 2026, making proper road management and safety measures even more important.

Young Syefura said she would continue holding discussions with Genting Malaysia to ensure the toll implementation is managed effectively and does not negatively impact the community.
