KUALA LUMPUR: Rapid KL has clarified that a loud sound heard at the Dang Wangi LRT station earlier today was not caused by an explosion.
In a statement, Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd said the ‘spark’-like sound was believed to have originated from one of the power supply components of a Kelana Jaya Line train.
The incident did not affect train operations or compromise passenger safety, it said.
“The Operations Control Centre (OCC) received a notification about the incident involving a Kelana Jaya Line train.
“As a safety precaution and in accordance with standard operating procedures, the train was removed from service for further inspection.
“The operations team also conducted a ‘train sweeping’ check to ensure there was no damage to any track components,” it added.
Rapid Rail said Kelana Jaya Line services continued to operate normally and stressed that passenger safety remained its utmost priority.
Earlier, a New Straits Times reader reported that her daughter, who was on a train approaching the Dang Wangi station, heard a loud bang and saw a flash at the back of the coach.
Immediately after the sound, the lights in the rear coach dimmed briefly before returning to normal.
