KUALA LUMPUR: A 40-second video has gone viral on Facebook, claiming that a bus carrying schoolchildren was pelted with objects by angry members of the public after the driver honked at cars blocking the road.
The incident occurred yesterday (Wednesday) near the Army Basic Training Centre (Pusasda) in Port Dickson, Negeri Sembilan, where army trainees were registering for their first day.
Cars had been parked along the roadside, making it difficult for larger vehicles to pass. When the bus driver honked to alert the owners, the situation quickly escalated. A verbal exchange then broke out between the driver and several individuals.
According to the caption of the video, stones were thrown at the bus.
In the comments section, a user named Aida Zabidin claimed that the bus in the video was one of three carrying primary school students travelling to Kuala Lumpur via Pusasda, heading towards the Seremban–Port Dickson highway.
“The bus was forced to stop because several cars were double-parked in the middle of the road and along both sides, blocking traffic. With the area crowded with families seeing off new army recruits, it was impossible to locate the car owners. The bus driver honked for some time to get their attention, and eventually, the drivers moved their cars without apologising.
“A bystander, angered by the honking, began shouting insults, followed by others. They also made obscene gestures towards the bus driver and students. A few individuals threw objects at the bus.
“The driver tried to protect the students and exchanged words after the bus was struck. Some people stepped in to calm the situation, and eventually, two military police personnel arrived to defuse the tension, allowing the buses to continue their journey safely.”
Aida, who was one of the teachers on the bus, said it was inappropriate for the car owners to park their vehicles in the middle of the road.
“Such actions not only caused inconvenience to other road users but also demonstrated a very selfish attitude.
“The behaviour of those who shouted insults, became angry, threw objects at the bus, and hit the vehicle was completely unacceptable.”
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad, when contacted, said the police had yet to receive a report on the incident.
“However, we will investigate the matter,” he said.
