SINGAPORE: A 22-year-old man, allegedly a university student, was arrested on Nov 9 after he was spotted strolling naked on campus grounds.
The incident, which was captured on video left students stunned and set social media abuzz, was also posted on a Singapore-based portal today.
The footage first surfaced on social media platforms two days ago, showing the man walking nude along a pavement near Nanyang Crescent, which is within the university’s sports and recreation centre.
According to media reports, police were alerted of the incident at 10.15am that day.
“The man was arrested for appearing nude in a public place. No injuries were reported, and investigations are ongoing,” it reported quoting the republic’s police.
Meanwhile, it was also reported that the university confirmed that campus security located the student shortly after the incident was reported and detained him until police arrived.
“The university has reached out to the student and other affected individuals to provide necessary support,” a university spokesperson said.
Under Singapore law, appearing nude in a public place is an offence that carries fines or imprisonment.
The bizarre episode has sparked wide online reaction, with some quipping about “bare essentials of campus life”, while others called for better mental health monitoring within the university community.
