Johor first state to roll out RM1,000 incentive for media practitioners

JOHOR BARU: Media practitioners in Johor will receive RM1,000 under a first-of-its-kind state-level incentive for the media.

The allocation is available to each registered media practitioner under the Johor Media Club (KMJ), to be paid from a RM200,000 allocation for media unveiled today in the Johor Budget 2026 by Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi.

It recognises the media’s role in delivering accurate information and enhancing communication between the government and the public.

Earlier, Onn Hafiz presented the state’s RM170 million BKJ package at the Dewan Persidangan, Bangunan Sultan Ismail, Kota Iskandar.

The BKJ programme is expected to benefit over 350,000 recipients, including single mothers, senior citizens, fishermen, taxi drivers, and media practitioners.

Onn Hafiz said the aid reflects the principle that “hasil negeri dipulangkan kepada rakyat” (every ringgit earned by the state must serve its people).

KMJ president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the incentive demonstrates the state’s appreciation for the dedication and professionalism of Johor’s media.

“This recognition is a definitely a boost morale to media professionals. It also reinforces the close ties between the state government and the media community,” he said.

Fauzi, also Gabungan Kelab Media Malaysia president, added that KMJ will continue collaborating with the state government to strengthen the media’s role as a strategic partner in Johor’s development under its Maju Johor agenda.
