KLANG: Police have arrested a 33-year-old man after he had allegedly attempted to run over a policeman and flee arrest.
South Klang police chief Assistant Commissioner Ramli Kasa said the suspect, who has 20 previous criminal records and five drug-related offences, was apprehended around 12.45am today in the Bandar Bukit Tinggi area.
“The incident happened yesterday at 2.30pm, when policemen attempted to stop the driver of a white Toyota Vios at the Persiaran Raja Muda Musa petrol station in Klang following a robbery in Subang Jaya.
“The suspect allegedly resisted, striking a policeman, colliding with a police vehicle, and fleeing against traffic towards Shah Alam before abandoning the car on Persiaran Sultan Ibrahim and escaping on foot,” he said in a statement.
Ramli said the policeman involved in the incident sustained injuries and both vehicles were damaged.
“As such, the Criminal Investigation Department has opened a case under Sections 186 and 307 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public officer and attempted murder.
“Further investigations will also be conducted into the suspect’s involvement in other criminal activities,” he said.
Previously, a one-minute 17 second video, recorded by a member of the public at the scene went viral, showing a car believed to be attempting to flee and being blocked by vehicles belonging to bystanders.
In the footage, a white vehicle suspected to be driven by the suspect is seen hastily leaving the scene after the incident, while an individual believed to be the victim is seen lying on the ground.
