KUALA LUMPUR: A special investigative team led by an Assistant Commissioner has been formed to probe the disappearance of Pastor Raymond Koh, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister told the Dewan Rakyat that the government respects the rule of law and is committed to seeking the truth and upholding justice.
“The police have immediately set up an investigation team,” he said.
“Although previous investigations were never closed, this time the team will be led by an ACP, and the probe has begun,” he added.
He told Syed Ibrahim bin Syed Noh (PH–Ledang) this during the Minister’s Question Time.
Syed Ibrahim asked the Home Ministry for its latest position on court decisions related to Amri Che Mat and Pastor Koh.
He asked about next steps, police SOPs and the credibility of the force.
Saifuddin said the team will review all initial investigation papers, including the previous Suhakam report and the previous special task force report.
“They will also gather new evidence, and we call on any party with information to come forward and assist the police,” he said.
“That is clear cut,” added Saifuddin.
He said the Attorney General has issued a statement regarding filing an appeal.
The High Court ordered the government to pay RM3.26mil to Amri Che Mat’s family and over RM37mil to Koh’s family.
It ruled that the authorities were responsible for their disappearances.
Amri was last seen on November 24, 2016.
Koh vanished on February 13, 2017.
Both cases were investigated by a Royal Commission of Inquiry and later by a special task force in 2019.
The task force found elements of forced disappearance.
