KUALA LUMPUR: The results of a review on the use of subsidised liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) by small and micro enterprises will be presented to the Cabinet next month, says Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali.
The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister said he has conducted several engagement sessions.
“Regarding the status of the amendment, our ministry is currently completing a comprehensive study with LPG distributors, small business associations and relevant agencies to determine reasonable stock levels according to area and business category.
“This consideration also includes storage capacity, fire safety standards and delivery facilities.
“All findings will be summarised to obtain the views of relevant ministries and agencies in November, and the results will be submitted for the attention of the Cabinet in December 2025,” he said in a parliamentary written reply to a question raised by Wan Hassan Mohd Ramli (PN-Dungun).
Wan Hassan had asked the ministry to provide a timeline for deciding the number and quantity of permissible LPG stockpiles that are practical for small and micro traders facing cost pressures from rising prices of goods.
According to Armizan, the engagement sessions conducted by his ministry involved food and beverage operators, laundry associations, and restaurant associations, such as Prisma, Presma, the Malaysian Laundry Association (MLA), MULA, and several chain laundry operators.
“Our ministry also held dedicated sessions with relevant agencies such as the Finance and the Housing and Local Government ministries, and the Fire and Rescue Department on Aug 5 2025,” he said.
Armizan said his ministry would also give serious attention to issues raised by small and micro enterprises concerning the eligibility to enjoy subsidised LPG, which is an important input for operations in the food, beverage, and laundry sectors.
“On this matter, the Cabinet, during its meeting on June 5 2025, agreed with our recommendation to implement amendments to the Supply Control Regulations (Amendment) 2021.
“Until these amendments are finalised, micro and small enterprises may continue using subsidised LPG for their business operations,” he reiterated.
