Singer and filmmaker Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, will be released on police bail tomorrow after the Attorney-General’s Chambers found no evidence linking him to the murder of a Taiwanese influencer last month.
Attorney-General Dusuki Mokhtar said instructions have been given for further investigations to be conducted.
“The AGC will take appropriate action if there are new findings,” he said, reported Buletin TV3.
Earlier today, Kuala Lumpur police chief Fadil Marsus said the police had completed their probe and submitted the investigation paper to the deputy public prosecutor’s office yesterday.
The case gained attention after Hsieh Yu-hsin was found dead in a hotel bathtub in Kuala Lumpur, where Wee had reportedly met her to discuss filming a video.
Police had reclassified the case as murder following an initial classification of sudden death.
Wee surrendered himself to the police on Nov 5 after the case was reclassified as murder, and his remand was extended until Thursday.
He was first arrested on Oct 22 after authorities discovered nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the hotel room.
Police said he later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
Wee, who was charged with drug possession and consumption, had pleaded not guilty and was released on bail of RM4,000 on each charge.
