Tze Yong retires hurt at the Malaysia Masters

KUALA LUMPUR: Ng Tze Yong’s rotten luck with injuries struck again at the Malaysia Masters on Wednesday.

The men’s singles shuttler, who holds a protected world ranking of No. 18, was forced to retire during his opening-round clash against Hong Kong’s world No. 21 Angus Ng at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil.

Tze Yong had taken the first game 22-20 and was leading 4-3 in the second when he suffered a right knee injury and had to pull out.

It’s another bitter blow for the 25-year-old, who only returned to action last month at the Badminton Asia Championships after spending nearly 14 months on the sidelines with a back injury.

The Malaysia Masters was his fourth tournament since his comeback, but he has yet to register a single win.
