The performance of government development projects in 2025 remains unsatisfactory and requires further improvement, Chief Secretary Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar said today.
He said that out of a revised total allocation of RM85.87 billion for 9,524 projects, RM64.03 billion had been spent, representing a national average of 74.56%.
“Only 16 ministries managed to exceed the national average, meaning 11 ministries have yet to reach that level,” he said at the National Development Symposium and Awards here.
Shamsul urged all secretaries-general to hold meetings of their respective ministerial development action councils as scheduled under Directive No. 1 of 2020.
“I also request that the public works department review the implementation methods for physical projects so they can be carried out more quickly and effectively,” he said.
He also said that the 2026 budget, announced by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, reflected the government’s commitment to continue assisting the people without increasing national debt, while laying a solid foundation for long-term, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth.
