Warisan has dropped its deputy president Darell Leiking from its list of candidates for the 17th Sabah state election, as the party vies for all 73 seats up for grabs.
Warisan will instead field party vice-president Terrence Siambun in Moyog, which Leiking won in the 2020 state election.
Leiking, the former Penampang MP, served as international trade and industry minister from 2018 to 2020.
Warisan president Shafie Apdal, who announced the party’s candidates in Kota Kinabalu today, will continue to defend the Senallang seat which he has represented for two terms.
Another Warisan vice-president, Daud Yusof, will contest the Bongawan seat, setting up a possible clash with Parti Cinta Sabah president Anifah Aman and Umno‘s Mohamad Alamin, who is also deputy foreign minister.
Fellow vice-president Junz Wong meanwhile will seek to defend his Tanjung Aru seat, which is also being contested by Sabah DAP deputy chairman Chan Foong Hin.
Other Warisan leaders who are not contesting the state polls are secretary-general Loretto Padua Jr and information chief Azis Jamman.
Shafie’s brother, Yusof Apdal, will be fielded in Silam, which falls under the Lahad Datu federal seat that he holds.
Kota Belud MP Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis will contest the Usukan seat, clashing with Barisan Nasional’s Salleh Said Keruak, a former Sabah chief minister.
Fauziah Fuad Stephens, the daughter of the late former Sabah chief minister who died in the 1976 Double Six crash, will vie for the Bengkoka seat.
Warisan will also field Justin Wong and Calvin Chong to defend their Sri Tanjong and Elopura seats. The pair won the seats on DAP tickets but later defected to Warisan.
