Police: Namewee had 'special relationship' with Taiwanese influencer

KUALA LUMPUR: Rapper Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, who is under remand over the murder of a Taiwanese influencer, is believed to have had a “special relationship” with her.

City police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said investigations found that Wee was with Hsieh Yu-hsin, 33, before they arrived in the country together.

“Investigations found that the suspect had a special relationship with the victim.

“We have recorded statements from all individuals involved in the case,” he said at a press conference after the Kuala Lumpur contingent police headquarters’ Deepavali celebration.

He said police were still waiting for the full post-mortem and toxicology reports for the victim, which were expected to take some time.

Fadil said the victim’s family had yet to claim her body.

“An individual tried to claim the body, but we did not allow it as there was no authorisation.

“We urge anyone with information on the victim’s family to come forward to assist the investigation.”

Wee’s remand was extended for three days until Thursday after the initial remand that began on Nov 5 ended yesterday.

Hsieh was found dead in a bathtub in a hotel room in Jalan Conlay here on Oct 22.

Her body was taken to Kuala Lumpur Hospital for a post-mortem.

The case was initially classified as sudden death, then reclassified as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code.
