KUALA LUMPUR: Global digital infrastructure giant Equinix Inc has reached a major construction milestone with the topping out of its second international business exchange data centre in Johor, JH2.
The US$201 million (RM953 million) facility, located within the Johor-Singapore Special Economic Zone (JS-SEZ), is slated for completion and launch in the third quarter of 2027.
Once operational, JH2 will offer 2,225 cabinets to meet growing demand for digital infrastructure in Malaysia’s expanding economy.
Equinix said the new data centre will strengthen its regional footprint and interconnection ecosystem, giving Malaysian and global enterprises direct access to some of the world’s most dynamic digital markets.
“This milestone reflects Equinix’s continued commitment to advancing Malaysia’s digital
infrastructure and enabling cross-border connectivity to drive innovation and growth across the Southeast Asian region,” the company said in a statement.
Equinix made its debut in the Malaysian market with the launch of its first data centre KL1, with an investment of US$100 million (RM422.9 million).
The first phase of the facility began operations in the first quarter of 2024, while the second phase completed in May this year.
Located in Cyberjaya, Kuala Lumpur, KL1 is a key component of Malaysia’s Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).
The data centre offers 900 cabinets and 2,630 square metres of colocation space.
In July 2024, the company acquired a 14,300-square-metre plot of land in Kuala Lumpur for RM23 million, where it plans to develop its second facility in the capital, known as KL2.
