KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 10 — Police have opened an investigation paper into two viral videos on social media that allegedly disparaged members of the Motorcycle Patrol Unit (URB) who were inspecting a car with foreigners in Subang Jaya, Selangor.
Subang Jaya district police chief ACP Wan Azlan Wan Mamat said initial investigations discovered that a video recording was made, including insults heard muttered, during the inspection which his officers carried out in an orderly manner following established procedures and that the individuals involved were later released.
He said police also discovered another video re-visiting the incident with a commentary making humiliating allegations against the police officers in the inspection.
“This case is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (for improper use of network services),” he said in a statement today.
Wan Azlan also urged the public against making any reckless statements, accusations or comments that could dent the image of the force or cause public confusion.
“Strict action will be taken against anyone who misuses social media to spread false information or defamatory content against the police force,” he said.
Earlier today, a two-minute 40-second viral video showed URB officers inspecting a car, carrying foreigners, which was seen changing lanes, and later the foreigners could not produce their passports for inspection by the URB. — Bernama
