KOTA KINABALU: A villager who failed to return after bathing in a river in Beluran has been found dead.

The 62-year-old went to the Trusan Sapi river behind his house in Kampung Bakong at about 8pm on Sunday (Nov 9).

He did not return home by the next day, and his family found his boat still docked at the shore but he was missing.

Beluran Fire Station chief Edoen Macheal said they received a call at about 10.19am on Monday.

He said it was for a search and rescue of a missing person believed to have been attacked by a crocodile.

He said their team arrived at about noon and villagers soon found an incomplete body.

“The body was found about 10 metres from where he was reported missing,” he said in a statement, adding that the body was handed to police for further action.

Firemen ended operations at about 2pm.

Wildlife officials have been alerted to the possible presence of a crocodile in the area.
