Kedah’s 2026 budget of RM1.33 billion includes a RM99 million deficit, focusing on development funds and increased revenue projections
ALOR SETAR: The Kedah government has tabled its 2026 budget totalling RM1.33 billion for operating and development expenditure.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor announced the budget projects an 11.81% deficit of RM99 million.
“This budget marks the first under the 13th Malaysia Plan and continues to advance the Kedah Development Plan 2035 and The Greater Kedah 2050 agenda,” he said when tabling the budget at the state assembly sitting.
The allocation covers operating expenditure, the State Development Fund, the Forest Development Fund and the Water Supply Fund.
For 2026, the state government expects to collect RM838 million in revenue, representing a RM48 million increase compared to 2025 estimates.
Projected revenue comprises land revenue (RM554.81 million), miscellaneous revenue (RM232.88 million), forest revenue (RM33 million) and district revenue (RM17.31 million).
The 2026 operating expenditure is estimated at RM937 million, an increase of RM47.1 million or 5.29%.
Of this amount, RM91.4 million is allocated for the State Development Fund to cover deficits.
Under operating expenditure, RM87.33 million is allocated for charged expenditure while RM849.67 million is for supply expenditure. – Bernama
