KUALA LUMPUR: A section of road along Jalan Bunus in the Masjid India area collapsed this morning, prompting the temporary closure of several nearby roads.

Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) said the incident occurred in front of Bombay Jewellery at 8.39am.

“For safety reasons, Jalan Masjid India has been temporarily closed to all vehicles from Lorong Masjid India 4 (beside the mosque) up to the affected section,” DBKL said in a statement.

Teams from City Hall, Pengurusan Air Sdn Bhd (Air ), Indah Water Konsortium Sdn Bhd (IWK), and the Dang Wangi District Police Headquarters were deployed to the site to carry out inspections and technical assessments.

“Public safety remains our utmost priority. Monitoring and repair work will continue, and further updates will be provided from time to time,” DBKL said.

Last year, Indian tourist G. Vijaya Lakshmi was tragically swallowed by a sinkhole that suddenly opened beneath her feet as she walked along Jalan Masjid India. Despite extensive search and rescue operations involving multiple agencies, she was never found.
