Controversial singer Wee Meng Chee, better known as Namewee, will remain in custody until Thursday following an extension of his remand period as part of investigations into the murder of Taiwanese social media influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
Dang Wangi police chief Sazalee Adam confirmed that Wee’s remand had been extended until Nov 13.
Wee, 42, was due for release today after surrendering to the police on Nov 5.
Hsieh reportedly met with Wee at a hotel in the capital to discuss filming a video together. He was said to have found her dead in a bathtub.
Wee was nabbed by the police on Oct 22 at the hotel, where authorities discovered nine blue pills suspected to be ecstasy in the room. He later tested positive for amphetamine, methamphetamine, ketamine and THC.
He was charged with drug possession and consumption but pleaded not guilty. The court allowed him to post bail of RM4,000 for each charge.
The police reclassified the death of Hsieh as murder after the initial classification of sudden death.
