Muhyiddin’s corruption trial to begin in March

KUALA LUMPUR:

The High Court will begin hearing former prime minister Yassin’s trial for abuse of power and receiving proceeds from unlawful activities in March.

Justice Noor Ruwena Nurdin fixed 29 days from March to August next year for the trial, after deputy public prosecutor Wan Shaharuddin Wan Ladin and defence counsel Chetan Jethwani agreed to the schedule.

The dates are March 9 to 11; April 13, 16, 28 and 29; May 25 and 26; July 6 to 10, 13 to 17, 27 to 29; and Aug 17 to 21, 26, and 27.

The court also set Nov 27 for case management and Nov 18 to hear ‘s application for the temporary release of his passport.

According to Wan Shaharuddin, about 30 prosecution witnesses will be called in to testify.

The Bersatu president was not present at today’s proceedings as the court had excused his attendance.

Muhyiddin, 78, is accused of four counts of abuse of power where he allegedly solicited RM232.5 million in bribes from one individual and three companies.

The Bersatu president allegedly committed the offences at the Prime Minister’s Office between March 1, 2020 and Aug 20, 2021.

The Pagoh MP also faces three charges related to RM200 million in funds allegedly received from Bukhary Equity Sdn Bhd and deposited in his party’s account.

The offences were allegedly committed at AmBank in Petaling Jaya and CIMB Bank Jalan Stesen Sentral, between Feb 25, 2021 and July 8, 2022.
