
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued an advisory on Typhoon Fung-Wong, which was detected about 129km southwest of Vigan City, the Philippines on Monday (Nov 10) morning.
In a statement on Monday, MetMalaysia said the typhoon is moving west-northwest at 30 km/h, with a maximum wind speed of 120 km/h.
“Typhoon Fung-Wong was detected at latitude 17.4 north and longitude 119.2 east, approximately 1,196 km northeast of Kudat, Sabah.
“This condition may cause strong winds and rough seas over the waters of the South China Sea,” it said.
Meanwhile, MetMalaysian also issued a thunderstorm warning for Perlis, Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan and Johor, effective until noon today.
Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected in Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Yan, Pendang, Kuala Muda, Kulim and Bandar Baharu (Kedah); as well as Kerian, Larut, Matang and Selama, Manjung, Perak Tengah, Bagan Datuk and Hilir Perak (Perak).
Similar weather conditions are expected in Sabak Bernam, Hulu Selangor, Gombak, Petaling, Hulu Langat and Sepang (Selangor); Jelebu and Seremban (Negeri Sembilan), and Muar, Batu Pahat, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi and Johor Bahru (Johor). – Bernama
