KPDN expands its digitalisation and price transparency initiative with two Sabah retailers joining the PriceCatcher app to provide real-time price data.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living has expanded its digitalisation and price transparency initiative with two Sabah retail chains joining the effort.
Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding with Bataras Supermarket and CKS Retail to implement voluntary price information sharing via the PriceCatcher application.
“This collaboration is part of KPDN’s ongoing efforts to expand its network of strategic retail partners,” he said in a statement.
The initiative aims to improve consumers’ access to market prices to help them make informed spending decisions.
Armizan noted the automated price-sharing initiative was introduced last year with MYDIN and Redtick before being extended to Sabah.
The PriceCatcher application now displays prices for 316 essential goods updated daily, weekly, and monthly.
These cover categories including fresh produce, dry and packaged goods, dairy and baby products, hygiene products, and beverages.
As of October 31, 2025, the application has recorded over 590,000 downloads with an average of 10,000 active users weekly nationwide.
Previously, price information was collected manually by Price Monitoring Officers in the field.
This limited data coverage in terms of area and number of premises.
With the MoU implementation, retail partners now voluntarily provide automated price data directly into the PriceCatcher system.
The move will broaden data coverage and enable Sabah consumers to access real-time price information.
Armizan said KPDN would continue encouraging more supermarkets and retail outlets to join the initiative.
He also urged Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah recipients to take advantage of the Perlindungan Tenang Voucher 3.0 initiative.
PTV 3.0 offers RM30 vouchers to two million STR recipients for purchasing basic insurance and takaful products.
The programme began on September 1, 2025, with registration available through the MyCoverage portal until December 31, 2025.
KPDN collaborated with the Malaysian Takaful Association to organise the Takaful Series Programme in Papar, Sabah.
The initiative aims to broaden outreach and enhance public understanding of affordable takaful products.
To date, 18,826 recipients have redeemed their vouchers and purchased basic takaful and insurance products through selected companies. – Bernama
