Kedah Confident Of Contributing To VMY2026’s 40 Mln Tourist Target

ALOR SETAR, Nov 9 (Bernama) — The Visit Kedah Year 2025 (VKY2025) campaign will further boost Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026), which aims to attract 40 million tourists next year, said State Tourism, Culture and Entrepreneurship Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Salleh Saidin.

He said that the state’s tourism campaign has drawn more visitors, especially to discover both new and established attractions in Langkawi and the rapidly developing mainland.

“Under the theme ‘Experience Kedah’, tourists are encouraged to see, taste, and fully immerse themselves in the unique experiences the state has to offer. VKY2025 is anchored on five key pillars: history, culture, arts, natural beauty, and gastronomy.

“With all available efforts, we continue to implement as many initiatives as possible guided by these five pillars, which have already proven to yield highly encouraging results,” he told reporters at the Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) Malaysia Inter-State Tourism Networking Forum here today.

He noted that Kedah’s existing attractions are gaining greater attention, while new tourism products and events are rapidly emerging.

Meanwhile, Mohd Salleh said the state government is offering full support to tourism industry players to visit Kedah and explore the state’s growingly unique and promising tourism offerings.

“Kedah offers a range of captivating destinations. Take the time to explore from the heights of Gunung Jerai to Lake Pedu, from Dayang Bunting to Pulau Songsong, and from Sungai Batu, home to Southeast Asia’s oldest civilisation, to Kuala Kedah with its legendary Perang Musuh Bisik (Kedah-Siam war).

“The sweeping padi fields and fruit orchards, from Mek Mulong to the enchanting Cinta Sayang dance, from Kedah laksa (noodle) to Gulai Temenung (fish curry), each offers its own unique appeal. Not only does this strengthen domestic tourism, but it also positions Malaysia as a preferred regional destination,” he added.
