SHAH ALAM, Nov 9 — Parti Amanah Negara has set its sights on contesting 28 parliamentary seats in the next general election (GE16), targeting to win at least 15, its national strategy director Ahmad Sabki Yusof said today.
In his winding-up speech at the 2025 Amanah National Convention, Ahmad Sabki said the party had moved past its “survival phase” in its first 10 years since being founded and was now ready to expand its political footprint.
“The first decade was our period of survival, and we went through it well. Now, we must look ahead and focus on the strategies needed to strengthen our party,” he said.
Ahmad Sabki said the 28 constituencies were identified during Amanah’s election retreat earlier this year, with the list now in the hands of the party’s election director.
“I once asked the president last year, ‘Abang Mat, how many parliamentary seats do we aim to win in the next general election?’ He said at least 15 parliamentary seats,” he said, referring to president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu, better known as Mat Sabu or Abang Mat.
“That’s why earlier this year, the strategy bureau held an Amanah election retreat, where we decided to set our sights on contesting 28 parliamentary seats in the next general election,” he added.
He said the party leadership had also formed a central election committee to monitor progress in all 28 targeted constituencies.
“We will ensure that in every constituency we plan to contest, we are active, well-prepared, and begin campaigning early. We don’t want to work at the last minute, because that makes it difficult to win.
“Winning those seats will be the benchmark of Amanah’s growth and credibility as a political force,” he said.
Ahmad Sabki said the bureau had identified three key priorities for the current term, the first being to make Amanah a stronger, more progressive, more trusted and people-centric party.
“The second is to ensure Amanah achieves greater electoral success in both the upcoming general election and state elections,” he said, stressing that a party’s strength is measured by its representation in Parliament and state assemblies.
Amanah currently holds eight parliamentary seats in the Dewan Rakyat:
- Kuala Selangor – Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad
- Hulu Langat – Mohd Sany Hamzan
- Shah Alam – Azli Yusof
- Kota Raja – Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu
- Sepang – Aiman Athirah Sabu
- Alor Gajah – Adly Zahari
- Sri Gading – Aminolhuda Hassan
- Pulai – Suhaizan Kayat
