KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 — Attempts by the media to obtain Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s response to the resignation of Entrepreneur Development and Cooperatives Minister Datuk Ewon Benedick last night have reportedly so far been unsuccessful.
According to Sinar Harian, two events attended by Anwar on Sunday morning — at the Gaya Street market and the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC) — drew media attention as reporters waited for his comments, but none were forthcoming.
However, when approached after attending the Rancakkan Madani Sabah programme at SICC, Anwar hinted that he would respond soon.
“I will, I will…” he reportedly said briefly while walking past members of the media.
In a statement on social media late last night, Ewon said that he was stepping down on grounds of principle, citing Sabah’s constitutional right to 40 per cent of federal revenue as provided for under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and the Federal Constitution.
His decision came after reviewing the written judgment by Kota Kinabalu High Court Judge Datuk Celestina Stuel Galid on the judicial review filed by the Sabah Law Society (SLS).
