KOTA KINABALU: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim this morning joined in a walkabout and breakfast session with the local community at the Gaya Street morning market here.
He arrived at 8.35am and was greeted by Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK) Mayor Datuk Seri Dr Sabin Samitah, along with visitors at the market, better known as ‘Tamu Gaya Street’ (Gaya Street Sunday Market).
Also present were Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil and Deputy Higher Education Minister Datuk Mustapha Sakmud, who is also Sabah PKR chairman.
Anwar spent about an hour mingling with traders and visitors after receiving a briefing from DBKK officials. The market is a popular spot for both locals and tourists.
He later had ‘nasi lemak’ at a restaurant in the area before heading to the Sabah International Convention Centre to officiate the ‘Rancakkan MADANI Sabah’ programme.
Meanwhile, visitor Robert Lius, 56, said he felt fortunate to have the opportunity to meet and shake hands with the Prime Minister.
“I came with my family to shop and did not know the Prime Minister would be here. I feel lucky to have met him,” he said.
‘Tamu Gaya Street’ takes place every Sunday from 7 am to 1 pm and offers a variety of items, including fresh produce, clothing, antiques and local handicrafts. – Bernama
