Upgrading Territorial Army Assets A Key Strategy To Boost Readiness – Perlis Regent

ALOR SETAR, Nov 9 (Bernama) — Efforts to upgrade the assets of the Territorial Army Regiment are regarded as a key strategy to strengthen the operational capability and readiness of the Malaysian Army Reserve Force.

Regent of Perlis, Brigadier General Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, also Commander of the 504 Territorial Army Regiment, said the initiative encompasses improvements to facilities and equipment, as well as the integration of new technologies to boost training and operational efficiency.

“This upgrade is vital to ensure the Territorial Army remains fully prepared to support the Malaysian Army in any mobilisation, while strengthening its standing as a professional, competitive, and relevant reserve force in the nation’s contemporary defence landscape,” said the Regent.

His Royal Highness made the remarks at the UniMAP Reserve Officers Training Unit (Palapes) Regimental Dinner in Perlis last night, attended by Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Hajah Dr Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who also serves as UniMAP’s Pro-Chancellor.

Also present were UniMAP Vice-Chancellor Datuk Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli and UniMAP Palapes Deputy Commander Major Muhamad Azuan Mohamad Nasir.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra stated that, as a reserve force for the Malaysian Army, the Territorial Army Regiment remains fully prepared to be mobilised in support of military operations, whether in emergencies, wartime, or the increasingly complex landscape of modern security operations.

“This role extends beyond that of a mere backup force, providing expertise in intelligence, logistics, and local defence, establishing the Territorial Army as a vital component in enhancing the nation’s defence readiness,” said His Royal Highness.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, who is also UniMAP Chancellor, said that the expertise of the Territorial Army also plays a pivotal role in enhancing national readiness through active involvement in national mobilisation.

“UniMAP is now entrusted to explore the field of aeronautics, thereby expanding expertise that can support the nation’s military needs and operations,” said the Regent, adding that this involvement exemplifies the competence, expertise, and seamless integration between defence components and the public sector in advancing the nation’s holistic defence strategy.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra also encouraged young officers to stay actively involved after commissioning by participating in the Territorial Army Regiment in their respective areas, as continued involvement is crucial to ensure the continuity of discipline, patriotic spirit, and commitment to national defence.

His Royal Highness said that, besides reinforcing personal character and leadership skills developed during training, such involvement also boosts national defence readiness and strengthens the holistic integration of the country’s security.

“In line with the Whole-of-Government, Whole-of-Society (WOGOS) concept, the engagement of young officers in the Territorial Army Regiment is pivotal in enhancing national defence holistically through the dynamic framework of the reserve forces.

“This approach calls for the active participation of all sectors of society and government agencies to maintain the nation’s readiness at its peak,” said the Regent.
