BINTULU, Nov 9 — The search and rescue (SAR) operation off the waters of Tanjung Payung has entered its fourth day today, with efforts ongoing to locate two missing fishermen.

The victims, identified as 65-year-old Jender Baem and his son 33-year-old Petrus Andrew Jender, were reported missing after their small fishing vessel capsized.

The incident was reported to the authorities at 8.57am on November 6.

Fortunately, four other fishermen were rescued by a passing tugboat during the incident.

A spokesman from the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) said an underwater search attempt by MMEA divers inside the capsized vessel yesterday was unsuccessful due to turbid water conditions and zero visibility.

“As a result, the search is continuing today using two MMEA maritime assets to conduct surface sweeps within the designated search sectors,” he said.

The SAR operation involves multiple agencies, including MMEA, Fire and Rescue Department, the Royal Malaysia Police. — The Borneo Post
