JPWPKL launches internal investigation into water confidence programme after 11-year-old student drowns at Desa Tasik Sports Complex pool.
KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Education Department will conduct an internal investigation into compliance with standard operating procedures for water confidence programmes.
This follows the drowning death of an 11-year-old schoolboy during a programme at Desa Tasik Sports Complex Swimming Pool in Sungai Besi.
The department expressed condolences to the student’s family and confirmed initial support has been provided.
JPWPKL stated it will fully cooperate with police who are also investigating the incident.
A team of counsellors and guidance teachers has been mobilised to provide psychosocial support to affected students, teachers and school staff.
The boy, a student from a Kuala Lumpur primary school, died yesterday after two days of treatment.
He was part of the Integrated Special Education Programme and drowned during the water confidence activity last Wednesday.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus confirmed receiving a report on the incident on the same day it occurred. – Bernama
