SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Parti Amanah Negara is hoping to win its first ever seat in Sabah in the upcoming Sabah state election.

At its national convention here, Amanah secretary-general Muhammad Faiz Fadzil noted that the Sabah state election would officially kick off soon in about a week’s time.

“Although we will face a big challenge in the state elections this time, but be confident that with our spirit and ambition, we will be able to achieve the first-ever seat for Amanah in the state election this time,” he said in his welcoming speech as the convention director.

Amanah has named Mohd Julpikar Ab Mijan as the party’s sole candidate for the Sabah state elections, and he will contest in the Sulabayan state seat in Semporna.

In his speech at the convention, Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu also voiced hopes for Amanah to win a seat in Sabah.

“Sabah’s state election will take place next week, and I pray that Amanah’s candidate will bring the party’s first-ever win in Sabah,” he said.

Campaigning for the Sabah state election will be from November 15 to November 28, with voting to be on November 29.

Mohamad also listed the upcoming elections that Amanah has to prepare for, namely state elections for Melaka, Johor and Sarawak, and the 16th general election.

“We know that in the unity government, the toughest is seat negotiations. But however difficult it is, it will reach an end when all political parties can accept, and we will face the coming elections together with the unity government,” he said.

Later in a press conference, Mohamad said negotiations for allocations of seats to contest in elections are always challenging, but that it would usually be resolved before elections start.

He also said Amanah is hoping to be allocated one additional seat to contest in the Sabah state elections, on top of the Sulabayan state seat that Mohd Julpikar is contesting.
