SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Parti Amanah Negara today said it is still hoping to be allocated one more state seat to contest in for the upcoming Sabah state election, on top of its current single candidate for the N.64 Sulabayan state seat in Semporna.
Amanah president Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu did not name the second state constituency that his party was eyeing, but said the party hoped to be allocated any seat that was considered suitable for the party.
“So far, Amanah has been given one seat, we are working to get at least one more seat,” he said in a press conference amid a break in Parti Amanah Negara’s National Convention.
Mohamad said Amanah has conveyed its wishes to Pakatan Harapan secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail for a second seat allocation, saying: “He will try to make a final negotiation ahead of nomination day on November 15.”
He said seat negotiations among political allies for any elections will always be tough, but that it would always be resolved before nomination day.
“But we are confident that whatever it is, I am confident that the alliance of Pakatan Harapan, Barisan Nasional and Gabungan Rakyat Sabah will return to power in Sabah,” he said.
Mohamad said the Sulabayan state seat is a “tough” seat, but said Amanah will do its best in the seat it has been entrusted with.
He said relations between Amanah and its allies would not be affected if it did not succeed in getting an additional state seat to contest in the Sabah state elections.
About two weeks ago, Amanah named Mohd Julpikar Ab Mijan as its candidate for the Sulabayan seat, which is located in Semporna.
Asked about the importance of Sulabayan for Amanah and PH, he said a win in this seat would mean one additional seat tally for the coalition.
Campaigning for the Sabah state election will be from November 15 to November 28, with voting to be on November 29.
