BERNAMA - No Special Privilege For Warzone, Organisers To Wait For Approval Decision

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 (Bernama) — The Warzone World Championship (WWC) organisers will have to go through the normal period of about 30 days to find out whether their combat tournament will be approved by the authorities.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said that no special privilege will be given to the organisers even though the tournament, scheduled to take place from Dec 6 to 7 at Arena 9 Stadium, Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, had gone viral on social media.

“We will process their application and the Sports Commissioner will study the insurance and permits. For national sports bodies, they will look at the athletes attending, whether they have training or not.

“We will wait for their sanction and the Sports Commissioner will carry out their duties to ensure that the application is processed normally. No special allowances because it’s viral. We follow processes, you need to wait about 30 days,” she said after officiating a Rakan Muda programme at the National Sports Council in Bukit Jalil today.

She also confirmed that the ministry, through the Sports Commissioner, received the official application by the WWC organisers for the purpose of registration and compliance to combat sports and reiterated her stand on the ban on children aged 15 and below in full body contact combat sports, unless the event obtains official approval from national or state sports bodies.

Hannah stressed that all combat sports competitions must be conducted according to international federation regulations and are required to undergo approval processes before being allowed to take place.

“We want to protect children from many unaccredited or unsanctioned organisers as it is dangerous for them.

“If we look at the public reaction, many have stated their objections towards the use of children or child exploitation for entertainment,” she said.

The WWC promotional video had earlier caused concern among viewers as it depicted a scripted face-off between two child fighters from Malaysia and Indonesia during an introduction session.
