KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Police have opened an investigation paper against a social media influencer after a video of him purportedly making lewd comments at a restaurant in Bukit Bintang went viral.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said officers received a report from a Russian woman at the Dang Wangi police station yesterday.
He said the report was related to a TikTok video in which the victim was allegedly humiliated with vulgar remarks.
“The case is being investigated under Section 509 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act. Further investigations into the incident are ongoing,” he said in a statement today.
Harian Metro reported earlier that Russian model Alisa Kasimova, 26, lodged the report after allegedly being subjected to the remarks while dining at the restaurant.
Kasimova said she decided to make the report following advice from friends who were concerned about her safety.
“Many asked me to come forward and lodge a police report, so I did. I didn’t do it out of anger, but because staying silent would only protect those who hurt others,” she wrote on her Threads account.
Following public backlash, the influencer has since apologised, admitting the incident stemmed from his own carelessness and being influenced by online comments.
