Storm Damages Over 60 Houses In Kuantan


KUANTAN, Nov 8  (Bernama) – More than 60 houses were damaged and 13 fallen trees were reported here following a storm last night.

Kuantan Civil Defence Force (APM) officer Major Zahidi Zainudin said the storm, which occurred at about 7.30 pm, hit Taman Tanah Putih, Bukit Setongkol and Taman Cenderawasih.

“As of 10 am today, 40 houses in Taman Tanah Putih were reported to be damaged, with the remaining 20 houses reported in Bukit Setongkol and Taman Cenderawasih.

“The actual number of premises affected and the losses involved have yet to be ascertained,” he said in a statement today.

He said no casualties have been reported so far.

Meanwhile, Zahidi said there were 13 reports of fallen trees, including one  on Jalan Bukit Bayroute, which damaged a house.

 “Cases of fallen trees were also reported in the Bukit Setongkol, Taman Cenderawasih and Jalan Tanah Putih areas, causing several roads to be blocked,” he said. 

He said the agency, together with the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department, had taken action to clear the debris due to the fallen trees at the affected locations.
