PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has congratulated the Malaysian Media Council (MMC) on successfully holding its first-ever Annual General Meeting (AGM).
MACC also congratulated all members of the council’s board who were appointed during the session, describing it as a positive step towards strengthening the nation’s media landscape.
MACC Strategic Communications Division director Hisyam Mohd Yusoff said the establishment of the council is expected to elevate the standards of professionalism and reporting quality in the local media industry.
“MACC believes the Malaysian Media Council can enhance professionalism and ensure media integrity and accountability remain at their highest levels,” he said.

Hisyam added that the long-standing relationship between MACC and the media could be further strengthened through collaboration with the council in promoting ethical and responsible journalism.
“We hope the council will play a key role in guiding media practitioners to produce accurate and fair reporting, while helping the public access credible and trustworthy news sources.
“We also would like to extend our congratulations to Media Prima News and Current Affairs deputy group managing editor Farrah Naz Abd Karim, for being among those elected,” he said.
He reiterated that MACC remains committed to supporting efforts that empower the media as a strategic partner in upholding integrity and transparency nationwide.
Farrah, who is also the New Straits Times group editor, was among those elected to the Malaysian Media Council’s board during its inaugural AGM yesterday.
Those elected under Category A, representing media companies, include former interim chairman Premesh Chandran, Farrah, Star Media Group chief content officer Datin Esther Ng, and Borneo Post and Utusan Borneo general manager Phyllis Wong Yang Yong.
Under Category B, representing journalists and media associations, the elected members are Mohamad Fauzi Ishak, Mariah Airens Doksil, Mohd Ishak Abdillah Ngah, and Adie Suri Zulkefli.
For Category C, representing the public and non-governmental organisations, the elected members include Content Forum Chief Executive Officer Mediha Mahmood, Professor Zaharom Nain, Terence Ooi, and Cynthia Lorraine Silva.
Speaking after the AGM, Farrah said the successful convening of the council’s first gathering marked a new milestone for Malaysia’s media industry, signalling a significant step towards strengthening media independence and unity among industry players.
