Selangor's royal newlyweds feted by 12,000 at Shah Alam celebration


SHAH ALAM: The Raja Muda of , Tengku Amir Shah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and his wife, Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini Abdul Aziz, were celebrated by more than 12,000 people at the Santunan Kasih Pengantin Diraja Bersama Rakyat event held at Dataran Kemerdekaan Shah Alam from 2pm to midnight on Friday.

The event was part of a series of celebrations following the royal wedding ceremony at Istana Alam Shah, Klang, last month.

The official reception was witnessed by the Sultan of , Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, and the Tengku Permaisuri of , Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin.

Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini arrived at the celebration at 9pm, accompanied by Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari and Selangor State Secretary Datuk Dr Ahmad Fadzli Ahmad Tajuddin.

Their arrival was greeted by state leaders and members of the public, with the royal kompang troupe and a Silat Cekak Hanafi performance.

The event began with a prayer recitation led by Selangor deputy Mufti Datuk Dr Miszairi Sitiris.

The royal couple and guests were treated to cultural performances by the Mah Meri Orang Asli community and a Zapin Nikah Kahwin dance performed by children under the Selangor Department of National Culture and Arts, along with appearances by local singers.

At the event, Tengku Amir Shah — dressed in a short-sleeved batik shirt — and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini — in a light purple floral modern baju kurung — also cut the ceremonial pulut kuning (yellow glutinous rice).

Earlier in the day, the royal couple joined members of the public in traditional games under the Sukan Rakyat programme held in conjunction with the event.

Upon arrival, they officiated the programme with a tin-throwing game gimmick before watching a sarong football match, marble race, and galah panjang competition.

They also took part in congkak and batu seremban games, observed checkers matches, and mingled with the people and children.

On Oct 2, the royal marriage ceremony between Tengku Amir Shah and Datin Paduka Seri Afzaa Fadini was solemnised by Selangor Mufti Datuk Dr Anhar Opir at the Royal Mosque, Istana Alam Shah, Klang.
