KUALA LUMPUR: Johor-born musician Namewee has released a new song titled Very Shuai while under detention pending a police investigation into the death of Taiwanese influencer Hsieh Yu-hsin.
The song title, which translates to “Very Handsome”, is apparently an old demo recorded in 2014 that dropped on Spotify yesterday, China Press reported.
The release date coincided with the day Namewee, whose real name is Wee Meng Chee, surrendered to the police.
According to local media reports, the rapper had announced the song’s release before being implicated in the murder investigation.
Wee was remanded yesterday for six days until Nov 10 to assist police with investigations into the murder of Hsieh, who was also known online as Iris Hsieh or “Nurse Goddess.”
Kuala Lumpur police chief Commissioner Datuk Fadil Marsus said the case of a woman found dead on Oct 22 at a hotel in the city had been reclassified from sudden death to murder.
Without identifying the victim, Fadil said the cause of death is still under investigation pending post-mortem and toxicology reports.
Wee was arrested on Oct 22 in a hotel room here and remanded for two days before being charged with two drug-related offences on Oct 24.
He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail, with the next court mention for the drug cases set for Dec 18.
The rapper previously denied using or possessing drugs and said on social media he would fully cooperate with police investigations.
