SUBANG JAYA, Nov 7 (Bernama) — Pelaburan Hartanah Berhad (PHB) has strengthened its commitment to community development and education by donating 35 units of classroom furniture to Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan U3, Subang Perdana, benefitting more than 1,000 pupils.
The initiative was conducted through PHB’s The Good Builder programme, in partnership with EPIC Homes, during which over 30 PHB employees volunteered to assemble desks, chairs and shelves for the school’s classrooms.
PHB group managing director and chief executive officer Mohamad Damshal Awang Damit said the initiative reflects the company’s continued dedication to supporting education and uplifting local communities.
“This programme is close to our hearts because it goes beyond corporate giving. It nurtures volunteerism and strengthens our corporate values of being Professional, Harmonious and Bold,” he said at the event.
He added that the effort is in line with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 on Quality Education, which underscores the need for a conducive learning environment that enables students to focus and learn comfortably.
Mohamad Damshal said PHB chose to collaborate with EPIC Homes because of the organisation’s proven track record and well-structured volunteer framework, which aligns with PHB’s goal of delivering impactful corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
Beyond The Good Builder, PHB has implemented several education-based initiatives, including providing free tuition for rural schools and supporting more than 70 underprivileged students by repairing the learning facilities of the non-governmental organisation Buku Jalanan Chow Kit.
“We hope this contribution not only improves the school’s facilities but also inspires students to pursue excellence in their studies,” he said.
Meanwhile, EPIC Homes co-founder and chief executive officer John-Son Oei said the organisation provided training and hands-on guidance to PHB volunteers, ensuring the classroom furniture produced was of high quality and safe for use.
“We guided the volunteers in using tools, taking accurate measurements and assembling the furniture to ensure every desk, chair and shelf was strong and durable,” he said.
Oei added that the collaboration demonstrates the powerful impact of partnerships between corporations and social enterprises.
“As a social enterprise, we often face resource limitations in meeting community needs. Collaborations with companies like PHB allow us to reach more communities and address wider social challenges,” he said.
For PHB volunteer Mohd Razman Mohd Sahimy, 33, the programme offered a meaningful hands-on experience.
“Usually, our community work happens behind the scenes, but this time we were on the ground, building furniture ourselves. It’s very fulfilling to know that our efforts will directly benefit students every day,” he told Bernama.
Another volunteer, Siti Aisyah Mustapha, 40, said the activity not only benefited the community but also fostered teamwork and skill development among staff.
“I was thrilled to join this CSR programme because we got to help others while learning something new. It was also good for our well-being as we were active, engaged and connected with colleagues from other departments,” she said.
