It looks like Grand Theft Auto fans will have to wait a little longer before they can get their hands on the next instalment. Rockstar Games has announced that it is delaying the launch of Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA VI) again. The new release date is 19 November 2026, roughly a year from now.
In an X post, the company apologised for the additional delay, stating that the extra months will allow it to “finish the game with the level of polish” that fans of the franchise expect and deserve. Previously, the developer had pushed back the game’s release to 26 May 2026. And prior to that, the game had a late 2025 launch window.

The company went on to thank fans of the series for their patience and support, but did not provide any further explanations for the new delay. It’s clear that development on the GTA VI has been rough, however. A few years back, the game leaked extensively, although Rockstar Games claimed that it had no substantial effect on development.
Disappointed fans are responding to the news with humour. The long wait for the game has become the subject of memes, with multiple users and brands responding to the statement in a joking manner.
Meanwhile, GTA VI publisher Take-Two does not seem to be concerned about the delay. In an interview with The Game Business, CEO Strauss Zelnick explained that the company will give a game more time if it needs more polish. He added that the company feels “really good” about this release date.
GTA VI’s predecessor launched more than a decade ago, all the way back in 2013. The game has lasted for several console generations, and the GTA franchise has remained popular among gamers. Naturally, expectations are high for the upcoming instalment.
