PUTRAJAYA: More than 5.5 million traffic summonses issued by the Road Transport Department (RTD) have not been settled.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the figure included 3.69 million on-the-spot summonses issued under RTD Regulation 22, and 1.39 million issued under the Automated Awareness Safety System (Awas).
“The others are 297,382 investigation notices, 161,699 summonses issued under Stamped Summons/RTD(P)23 (Notice 115) and 6,409 issued under the Commercial Vehicle Licensing Board Act 1987.
“I urge all motorists with outstanding summonses to settle them during the two-month discount period that ends on Dec 30,” he said after the ministry’s monthly assembly here yesterday.
Present were Deputy Transport Minister Datuk Hasbi Habibollah and secretary-general Datuk Jana Santhiran Muniayan.
On Oct 27, RTD director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said motorists would be able to settle outstanding RTD summonses — with a 50 per cent discount — from Nov 1 to Dec 30.
He had said the discount applied to all summonses except for those not eligible for compounding, adding that no discounts would be offered for RTD and police summonses after Jan 1 next year.
Previously, Loke was reported as saying that beginning Jan 1, the settlement rate for summonses would depend on when they were paid.
He had said payments made within 15 days would be charged only 50 per cent of the compound amount, while the full rate would apply after 30 days.
