PETALING JAYA, Nov 6 (Bernama) — Selangor FC’s hopes of going further in the Asian Football Conference (AFC) Champions League Two (ACL2) were dashed when they went down 3-2 to Indonesia’s Persib Bandung in a Group B match at the Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) Stadium today.
Their fourth straight defeat has left the Red Giants at the bottom of the four-team standings with no points to show for. Persib lead the group with 10 points, followed by Bangkok United (9 pts) and Singapore’s Lion City Sailors (four points).
Selangor began tonight’s match in style when they opened the scoring in the third minute through Chrigor Moraes, who finished off a cross from Alvin Fortes.
The Red Giants extended their lead in the 17th minute through an own goal by Patricio Matricardi.
Persib, coached by Bojan Hodak, then struck three times after the break, with Andrew Jung benefiting from a goalmouth melee to pull a goal back in the 49th minute.
Persib then levelled the score at 2-2 through an Adam Alis Setyano goal in the 81st minute, and just when it looked like the game was heading for a draw, a mistake by Selangor goalkeeper Sikh Izhan Nazrel allowed Adam Alis to pounce and slot home the winner in injury time.
Selangor still have two more group matches to go – against Bangkok United and Lion City.
