The government has spent RM22.7 million to produce 44 films and television programmes with patriotic and national themes, says the communications ministry.
Minister Fahmi Fadzil said the funds were channelled through the Creative Content Fund under the National Film Development Corporation (Finas) to help nurture local filmmakers and promote stories of national struggle and identity.
“We want to support works that build love for the country. This includes films on our history, our heroes and the values that hold us together,” he said in a written parliamentary reply to Zahari Kechik (PN-Jeli).
Zahari had asked if the ministry had plans to produce historic films or dramas featuring local historical themes and national heroes to help foster patriotism.
Among the productions that received support are Imam, Padu, Rain Town, Pagari Bulan, Denu, Memoir Seorang Guru, Sherif and Mat Kilau, said Fahmi.
He added that a new Citra National Production Special Fund 2026 is being planned to support more content highlighting unity, patriotism, culture and social values.
“This is part of our aim to strengthen national identity through creative work,” he said.
