, Nov 6 — The temporary disruption to mobile network quality around Sibu town, Sarawak on November 1 was caused by a prolonged power outage at one of the main telecommunications towers in the Sri Aman area, says the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC).

MCMC, in a statement today, said the outage affected connectivity between towers across the central to northern regions of Sarawak, including Sibu town, but network services were restored in stages from 10 am to 5 pm on the same day.

“Following public complaints and issues raised by the Sibu MP in a recent Parliamentary sitting, MCMC conducted network coverage tests at several key locations including Jalan Pulau, Jalan Merdeka and the Sungai Bidut area,” the statement said.

MCMC said assessments showed that mobile network performance in the tested areas was good and stable, with download and upload speeds at satisfactory levels for all major service providers.

According to MCMC, a total of 61 network audits were carried out in the Sibu district this year, with 16 improvement notices issued to service providers that failed to meet performance standards.

“This is in line with MCMC’s continuous commitment to ensuring communications service quality and reliability remain at an optimal level,” it said. — Bernama
