Port of Tanjung Pelepas achieves double-digit growth monthly, may join top 10 ports with Maersk partnership
PUTRAJAYA: The Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) continues to record strong growth and could soon join the list of the world’s top 10 ports, said Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
He said PTP’s container throughput has been achieving double-digit growth each month, driven by its strategic partnership with global shipping giant Maersk Line.
“Yesterday, I visited Maersk Line’s mega distribution hub in Shah Alam and shared that Maersk has made PTP its global transhipment hub.
“All Maersk vessels now conduct their transhipment operations at PTP, making it one of the world’s major hubs,” he said after officiating the Transport Ministry’s November monthly assembly and Cahaya Kasih Madani ceremony here.
Loke said the ministry is confident PTP’s performance will continue to strengthen, potentially placing it among the world’s top 10 busiest ports in the near future.
Earlier in his speech, Loke highlighted a major milestone for Malaysia when Port Klang entered the top 10 of Lloyd’s List 2025 ranking of the world’s 100 leading ports — the first time a Malaysian port has achieved such recognition.
He expressed confidence that PTP could follow in Port Klang’s footsteps and achieve a similar ranking in the future.
