, Nov 6 — Transport Minister Anthony Loke today warned motorists with outstanding summonses from the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to settle them by Jan 1 or face stricter action, including being blacklisted or taken to court.

Speaking at the Transport Ministry, Loke said that over 5.5 million JPJ summonses remain unresolved nationwide, Free Malaysia Today reported.

Loke explained that after the Jan 1 deadline, failure to pay could result in vehicle owners being blacklisted, preventing them from renewing their motor vehicle licences (road tax) or driving licences, depending on the offence.

To encourage payment, JPJ is offering a 50 per cent discount for all compoundable summonses, effective from Nov 1 to Dec 30.

He said that the largest share of unpaid summonses consists of 3.68 million JPJ P (22) notices, which cover general offences like driving without a licence or with an expired road tax.

This is followed by 1.38 million offences detected by the Automated Awareness Safety System (AWAS) cameras, such as speeding and running red lights.
