The government has increased the fuel quota for full-time e-hailing drivers under the BUDI95 programme to 800 litres per month, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced in the Dewan Rakyat today.
Anwar, who is also the finance minister, said the new quota allows drivers to travel about 5,000 kilometres each month and will come with certain conditions.
Earlier, on October 13, the government had already raised the quota from 300 litres to 600 litres, helping around 58,000 e-hailing drivers. The latest increase follows driver appeals and fuel usage data shared by e-hailing companies.
For the general public, Anwar said the 300-litre monthly limit is more than enough since most people only use about 98 litres. He added that only 0.7% of users go beyond the limit, usually when travelling to their hometowns.
When asked why the BUDI95 programme now covers all Malaysians instead of just the 85% originally planned, Anwar explained that defining the top 15% (T15) income group was difficult.
He said even if the income limit was set at RM20,000 per month, it would still affect many middle-class families. For now, the government will keep the current system and adjust it later if needed.
